Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto Tale of the Tape

Manny Pacquiao has happened to be the most popular boxer today. Having a record or 49-3-2, with 37 KO's, he has been knocking down well known boxers to become the first Filipino and Asian boxer to win five world titles in five different weight divisions. But the Pacman is not going to stop there as he aims to win over another belt against another great fighter in Miguel Cotto. For Pacquiao it was enough of a concern that his handlers originally insisted the Cotto fight be contested at 143 pounds. Wisely, Cotto’s side understood that would be an unnecessary weakening of their man and agreed only to come down to 145.

Miguel Cotto is not to be taken for granted with a record of 34-1 and 27 KO. This guy is the current WBO welterweight champion. Cotto began his professional career in 2001, and on September 11, 2004, he defeated Kelson Pinto for the WBO junior welterweight championship. He defended the title successfully a total of six times, before vacating it when he ascended to the welterweight division. On his first match on this division he defeated Carlos Quintana for the vacant WBA welterweight championship. Cotto successfully defended this title against Oktay Urkal, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley and Alfonso Gómez, before losing it to Antonio Margarito. On February 21, 2009, he defeated Michael Jennings to win the vacant WBO welterweight championship.

Watch Replay: UFC 100 Lesnar vs Mir

Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar beat Frank Mir in the second round at the UFC 100 on Saturday, July 11 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Lesnar used his size and strength advantage to overwhelm Mir, who managed only a few brief moments of offense in the fight.

Mir only had one offensive move, a knee early in the second round. Lesnar took Mir down in the first and pounded him with rights, then did much the same in the second until it was stopped.

Lesnar, who lost to Mir last year at UFC 81 on a first-round submission, shouted to the crowd, “I love it! Keep booing! Keep booing!”

FIFA Confederation Cup Finals Game Replay: Brazil won over USA

Brazil won the game against USA with 3-2 goals in the FIFA Confederation Cup Finals last Sunday June 28, 2009.

Brazil deserves its place around the top of the world soccer table. Luis Fabiano was prolific with his shots on goal (and goals, collecting the Golden Boot) and Kaka, Robinho and Maicon slowly took over the midfield, building a rising tide of attacks. This win reaffirms Brazil’s timeless dominance of international soccer, but also announces the U.S.’s potential, playing well in their first major tournament final. We’ll see if that potential can be transferred to wins by the time the team likely makes it back to South Africa at next year’s World Cup.

The Confederations Cup final in Johannesburg is the biggest event for the U.S. in South Africa since Paul Simon’s Graceland album release in 1986. For Brazil, it’s just another game. Consider this: Today’s match is the first time the U.S. has been in the final of a major FIFA tournament. For Brazil? Well, this is their fourth time in the Confederations Cup final. And the 2009 event is only the sixth Confederations Cup, so it’s fair to say Brazil has dominated the competition.

Brazil brings a strong lineup of one-named phenoms. Kaka and Robinho are two. Their game plan will likely be unchanged from the first meeting with an emphasis on speed and precision passing.
